Oct. 5 Voter Registration Deadline Looms for Lakewood Ranch Ahead of Nov. 3 Election

Lakewood Ranch residents who aren't registered to vote, or who need to update an address, have until Monday, Oct. 5, to do so before the Nov. 3 general election. Miss it, and there's no same-day registration option in Florida. The deadline applies to anyone who has moved within Manatee County or changed their name since the last election, not just first-time voters.

The ballot is a long one this year. Voters will decide the governor's race, a U.S. Senate seat, and the newly created FL-16 U.S. House seat, along with four Manatee County Commission seats and two Manatee County School Board seats. Local races often turn on a few hundred votes, so a registration lapse can matter more here than it might in a statewide contest.

Where to register or check your status

Manatee County has opened a seasonal elections office inside Lakewood Ranch at 9000 Town Center Parkway, open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. through Nov. 6. It's a convenient stop for residents who want to confirm their registration is current, update an address, or ask questions about a mail ballot in person rather than online.

Early voting close to home

Residents won't have to leave Lakewood Ranch to vote early. Two local sites are on the county's list: Lakewood Ranch Town Hall, at 8175 Lakewood Ranch Blvd., and the Lakewood Ranch Library, at 16410 Rangeland Pkwy. Both run the full early voting window, Oct. 19 through Nov. 1, from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. every day, including weekends.

Anyone planning to vote by mail needs to have that ballot requested by 5 p.m. on Oct. 22. After that, the safer bet is early voting or showing up on Election Day itself. Florida law requires a photo ID with a signature at the polls, so a driver's license, passport, or another state-approved ID needs to come along.

The county has not yet released precinct-by-precinct turnout projections or said whether additional early voting hours will be added closer to Nov. 1. Residents who want to avoid lines on Election Day itself should plan around the Oct. 19 start of early voting, since Lakewood Ranch's two sites tend to draw steady traffic through the final weekend before the race.
